A reader speaks
I finally turned the bedroom light out at 2 a.m. this morning. Why? Because I had to finish reading Junkyard Blues. Kudos to the author.

About Me
- Name: nannosecond
Nan Mahon is a journalist, columnist, and freelance writer. Her first book, Hard Times and Honeysuckle, is a family anthology about growing up poor in rural Texas. Many of the stories are taken from her former column in the Elk Grove Citizen, A Nanosecond in Time. Mahon now writes a monthly column for the Sacramento Bee Neighbors and is on staff at Senior Magazine. Her first novel, Pink Pearls and Irish Whiskey, will be out this spring. The author has garnered several journalistic honors, including the California Newspaper Publishers Award for Feature Story of the Year. Mahon is a graduate of California State University, Sacramento, and volunteers for several local arts organizations. She is a committee member for the Focus on Writers conference and a board member of Friends of the Library, as well as a commissioner for the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission. Married to her real life hero, Mahon has lived in Sacramento 30 years and is working on her third book.

What a roaring book with such rich, rich characters. The first page had the ability to light up my mind with a visual.
I found this book to be consistently exciting, to have plenty of twists, turns and intrigue while not being so layered with hidden plot items so as to be hard to sort out and follow. The personalities ring true to real people we have all known. The reader is given just enough insight into the inner working of the major players' minds to provide a framework that allows one to feel they understand them without being condescending. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to all lovers of adventurous fiction.
